International Disability Insurance
|
U.S. disability insurance companies can be reluctant to offer coverage to expatriates and third country nationals residing outside the U.S., especially for individuals. Coverage may also be restricted or void for employees or individual working in areas of conflict. ITG Worldwide has the solution with specialized international disability insurance products.
Global Coverage and Unique Features
The international disability plans we offer can provide coverage for expatriates, travelers, contractors, and key local nationals worldwide. We’ll help you meet important contract obligations for overseas employees, business agreements or protect your personal earning potential. Coverage can be tailored for large groups or individuals with unique features such as;
- Not an Aggregate Policy – The benefits are not reduced by payments received from other plans.
- Simple Arbitration – Should the underwriter’s physician and your physician not agree on the client’s total disability both physicians shall agree to name a third to make a final and binding decision.
- Presumptive Disability – Benefits will be paid and the normal requirements of the elimination period and medical care waived in the event of loss of hands, feet, sight, hearing or speech.
- Recurrent Disabilities - If a disability reoccurs after returning to your regular, full time occupation for six months or longer the reoccurring disability will be considered a new claim with a new benefits period.
- Transplant Benefit – The total disability benefits will be paid as a sickness benefit for a disability if the client donates an organ. There is a 6 month waiting period for this benefit.
Optional Benefits
Optional benefits may be added to increase the standard coverage and improve the terms of the contract.
- Residual Disability Rider Benefit – This benefits is payable even if you are still at work. If there is a 20% loss or more in income due to a disability the client is eligible for a similar percentage in disability benefits.
- Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) – Increases the monthly benefit amount passed on the Consumer Price Index up to 10% a year.
- Lump Sum Benefits – Allows for a one time lump sum benefit to be paid once the benefit period has expired.
War & Terrorism Coverage
Contractors headed to areas of conflict typically are provided Defense Base Act (DBA) coverage that includes some disability benefits. However, for higher income earners the disability benefits provided by DBA might not be enough. ITG Worldwide has assisted many companies with this problem and provide disability coverage for war and terrorism claims.
* Notes: This is a general outline of benefits. Some plans may not have all of the above benefits or terms included.
